How to make avocado toast
- Cut an avocado in half and spoon the inside from one half onto a slice of toast.
- Use a butter knife to break up avocado chunks and spread onto toast evenly.
The best bread for avocado toast
Sourdough, multigrain, whole wheat, or white bread are all great options for avocado toast. Ensure the toast is toasted well so it will support the weight of the avocado. A golden-brown crispy toast is key for avocado toast.
Tips for making the best avocado toast
- Find an avocado that is ripe. When choosing an avocado it should be soft to touch meaning your thumb should slightly indent into the avocado when squeezing. If the avocado is too firm it is not ripe yet, if it’s too squishy, the avocado is overripe and probably not good to eat.
- Top avocado with crunchy toppings. It adds a nice texture and compliments the soft avocado well.
- Season avocado with salt! Salt really elevates the flavors of avocado toast. If you add no more toppings to your avocado toast, at minimum add salt. Even a course Himalayan salt or sea salt tastes delicious on avocado toast.

- 2 slices bread of choice sourdough, multigrain, whole wheat, etc.
- 1 small ripe avocado
- 1 lemon wedge
- 1/2 cup arugula
- salt and pepper to taste
Super Seedy Avocado Toast
- 2 slices bread of choice sourdough, multigrain, whole wheat, etc.
- 1 small ripe avocado
- salt to taste
- 1 Tablespoon hemp seeds
- 1 Tablespoon pepitas
- 4-5 radishes sliced
Balsamic Tomato Avocado Toast
- 2 slices bread of choice sourdough, multigrain, whole wheat, etc.
- 1 small ripe avocado
- salt to taste
- 1/2 cup grape tomatoes slices
- 1/2 cup balsamic vinegar
- 1 Tablespoon fresh parsley chopped
BBQ Chickpea Avocado Toast
- 2 slices bread of choice sourdough, multigrain, whole wheat, etc.
- 1 small ripe avocado
- 1/2 cup canned chickpeas rinsed and drained
- 2 Tablespoons BBQ sauce
- 1/4 red onion sliced thin
- 1 Tablespoon fresh cilantro chopped
Instructions
Lemon Arugula Avocado Toast
- Toast bread. Spoon 1/4 avocado onto bread and spread evenly.
- Top with fresh lemon juice, salt, pepper, and arugula.
Super Seedy Avocado Toast
- Toast bread. Spoon 1/4 avocado onto bread and spread evenly.
- Top with salt, hemp seeds, pepitas, and radishes.
Balsamic Tomato Avocado Toast
- Make balsamic reduction: Add balsamic to a small pot on medium heat. Whisk consistently until reduced in half.
- Toast bread. Spoon 1/4 avocado onto bread and spread evenly.
- Top with tomatoes, parsley, and drizzle with balsamic reduction.
BBQ Chickpea Avocado Toast
- Mix chickpeas and BBQ sauce.
- Toast bread. Spoon 1/4 avocado onto bread and spread evenly.
- Top with BBQ chickpeas, red onion, and cilantro.

The tomato and balsamico one would be the firt one I’d try! I love tomato with avocado, so much that it is a favourite pizza topping for me!
I can’t even remember what the world looked like before avo on toast! It’s my absolute favourite way to enjoy avocado, and I often use it instead of butter. Love all these versions of toasts, they look utterly delicious!
