“Golden milk” as some call it, this creamy yet healthy elixir is a must try! Coconut milk, turmeric, warm spices, and sweetener are all you need to make this vegan frothy beverage.
I might be late on the trend, but I’m into it. It’s not new news that turmeric packs amazing health benefits. But putting it into a latte has never crossed my mind. I mean even Starbucks hopped in on the trend so it must be worth the hype right?
The answer is yes.
Ingredients in a turmeric latte:
Well for starters we got turmeric. I prefer ground turmeric over fresh solely for ease of use. If you prefer to use fresh though, I’m not stopping you!
Besides turmeric, the base is coconut milk and it’s seasoned with cinnamon, ginger, nutmeg, vanilla, and a hint of salt. It’s also sweetened with coconut sugar which gives this drink a deep, sweetened flavor.
A delicious dairy-free latte? Dreams really do come true!
Health benefits of turmeric:
Turmeric has been used in ancient medicine for centuries. It’s packed with many health benefits (including but not limited to:)
- Anti-inflammatory properties
- Improves brain function
- Lowers risk of heart disease
- Can prevent (or help fight) cancer
- Helps relieve arthritis symptoms
Yes, turmeric has BIG SHOES to fill but I think it’s in the best interest for everyone to add a little turmeric into their diets.
How to get rid of turmeric stains:
A rule of caution – turmeric stains! Your hands, clothes, counters. So be careful when handling this stuff!
White vinegar does a great job of removing it from clothes, linens, and dishes. To remove stains from counters, a paste of baking soda and water should do the trick.
This article from Food52 goes into some in-depth approaches for stain removal.
How to make a turmeric latte:
Start by adding all the ingredients to a small pot on low-medium heat, whisking vigorously until it starts to get frothy.
Then pour the mixture into a high-speed blender and blend until nice and frothy. This step really helps with getting that latte taste without a fancy schmancy latte machine that I’m sure none of us own.
This golden-hued drink is for sure to make you feel like a goddess. Turmeric isn’t only limited to lattes. Try putting turmeric powder into smoothies too for an extra health boost!
